Home Energy Audit
1. What is the difference between energy efficiency and energy conservation?
Using less energy to provide the same convenience as a product that is energy inefficient. Conservation is to use less energy to save energy.
2. In your opinion, based on the results of this audit, how energy efficient is your home? Explain.
my home is probably below efficient. When it comes to heating, cooling, water use and windows/doors, all of the categories that were efficient were marked 'no' except for one. This means that my home is not efficient in those categories. When it comes to appliances, 5 of the categories that were efficient were marked out of the 9.
3. What area of your household do you think needs the most work to become more efficient?
My household that I think needs to become more efficient are the water use. 1 of the 6 were marked 'yes'. To make my house more efficient, my household needs to recognize the importance of water in energy usage. If my household uses water wisely, it can increase the fact that we are using energy wisely too.
4. What are three things your household could do to conserve more energy?
3 things in my household could do to conserve more energy is to buy more energy star products, turn off power when it is not in use and to account for air circulation when it comes to furniture.
5. Are you willing to make these changes? Why or why not?
Yes I am willing to make these changes, because in the short run it's going to be expensive but in the long run it is going to be worth every penny spent if our electrical bill is noticeably lower than before we changed to conserve the energy.
6. For what purposes is hot water really needed in the home? In your opinion, what are some reasons many people use more hot water than they really need?
Some purposes hot water is needed is to boil food, make hot drinks, take hot shower and baths and to wash clothes. Some reason people use more hot water than they really need is because they don't really realize the amount they are using before they are educated about it. Some people think that they are using enough hot water for their uses, but if they are educated about how much water the person is actually using, then they might use less.
7. What energy efficiency or design features do you think should be considered when constructing new homes?
When constructing new homes, I think that furniture should be given space to give air circulation. I also think that the homes should be insulated and buy furniture that uses water efficiently and energy efficiently.
8. Did you come across any other factors that might affect home energy use, but were not included in this audit? What were they?
Some other factors that might affect home energy use is how the household gets their energy. Some energy sources are less efficient than others even before they reach the household, like using coal. It is an inefficient energy source, so by the time we get the electricity, is has less energy than the coal actually had.
